Author and photographer, John Roskelley, is a dabbler in everything outdoors. If he’s not dodging rocks on some alpine face in Canada or scratching his way up a frozen waterfall, John can be found paddling rivers from source to mouth. In his first half century, John fought his way up four 8,000-meter peaks, including K2 and Everest, plus a plethora of devilishly hard, unclimbed Himalayan alpine faces and ridges. John, a graduate of Washington State University in geology, has written three adventure books and a 2014 paddler’s guidebook to the entire 1200 miles of the Columbia River. In February 2017, John compiled, edited and published his dad's stories, "Living to Fish: Tales of Youth, War, and Outdoor Writing" as an ebook. In November 2017, John published "Living to Fish" as a paperback using Kindle Direct Publishing. His most recent book, Fancy Dancer and the Seven Drums, released in February 2023, is an adult fiction thriller. John's photography has graced the cover of National Geographic and many other magazines, catalogs and books. He served as a Spokane County Commissioner for nine years (1995-2004) and on the Eastern Washington Growth Management Hearing Board for six years. In 2014, John was the sixth recipient and first American to receive the International Piolets d’Or Lifetime Achievement Award. He and his wife, Joyce, have been married since January 1972 and have three great kids.
